Recap on the 1st Rotating Research Club in Hohenheim

One of the most important resources in scientific work lies in the collaboration with other scholars – sharing ideas, discussing, inspiring each other, and teaming up to advance research.

The idea behind the Rotating Research Club resulted from the collective desire to connect regional universities to share current research insights in the field of work psychology and organizational behavior.

Initiated by Ulrike Fasbender (University of Hohenheim), Sabine Sonnentag (University of Mannheim), Tanja Bipp (Heidelberg University), Regina Kempen (Aalen University), Klaus Melchers (Ulm University), and Florian Kunze (University of Konstanz), the University of Hohenheim's department of business and organizational psychology had the honor of hosting the first Rotating Research Club in Hohenheim on March 17, 2023.

The event brought together a total of 21 Ph.D. students, post-docs, and professors from six universities within the closer region of Baden-Württemberg.

The event took place at Hohenheim Palace, and attendees enjoyed a series of six research presentations on various topics:

  • Coping strategies for daily workplace anger (Robin Umbra, University of Hohenheim)
  • The impact of the political impact on immigrants’ well-being (Benjamin Korman, University of Konstanz)
  • Daily changes in boundary management preferences (Nicolas Müller, Aalen University)
  • Subjective age and its impact on blue-collar workers’ knowledge exchange (Kilian Hampel and Sophie Moser, University of Konstanz)
  • Personnel selection measures to reduce discrimination and biases against minorities (Klaus Melchers, Ulm University)
  • How workplace learning is shaped by social comparison processes (Laura Rinker, University of Hohenheim)

The work presented varied in terms of research stages, from finalized papers to current data collection to conceptual ideas.

In addition to the presentations, the Rotating Research Club provided plenty of opportunities for networking during the lunch break and coffee breaks, and an informal program including a walk through the Hohenheim Gardens and a visit to the local Denkbar following the event.

Overall, attendees appreciated the location, the diverse set of presentations, and the opportunities for discussion beyond their respective groups. In particular, they enjoyed the open atmosphere and constructive feedback they received during the event. The Rotating Research Club provided a unique opportunity for researchers from different universities around Stuttgart to come together and learn about each other’s research.

We believe that the Rotating Research Club in Hohenheim marks a successful start to what we hope will become an established tradition. Thanks to all participants for the exchange, the questions, and the interesting research projects that were presented, and also to Sabine Sonnentag, Tanja Bipp, Regina Kempen, Klaus Melchers, and Florian Kunze for supporting this event with their teams!
